Truetype and Mac Fonts on Ubuntu

If you are anything like me and find it hard to give your love to tinker with your font settings on ubuntu, try this:
This will surely make you love your ubuntu desktop even more.

Open up a terminal window and type the following commands:

# wget http://ubuntu-debs.googlecode.com/files/macfonts.tar.gz
# tar zxvf macfonts.tar.gz
# sudo mv macfonts /usr/share/fonts/
# sudo fc-cache -f -v

To add more choices you might also want to install the MS Truetype fonts as well.
In the same terminal window type the following commands:

$ sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts
$sudo fc-cache -fv

Logout of your X-Session and login again and then change your settings to use one the the following cool fonts to meet your taste.

True Typefonts:

  • Andale Mono
  • Arial Black
  • Arial (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
  • Comic Sans MS (Bold)
  • Courier New (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
  • Georgia (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
  • Impact
  • Times New Roman (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
  • Trebuchet (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
  • Verdana (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
  • Webdings

and MAC Fonts:

  • AppleGaramond
  • Aquabase
  • LITHOGRL
  • Lucida Grande
  • Lucida Mac
  • lucon
  • MacGrand
